TTOC President Laments Loss of Carib Rugby Clubhouse

Brian Lewis, President of the Trinidad and Tobago Olympic Committee, is lamenting the loss of the Carib Rugby Clubhouse.

The Clubhouse, located at Zoo Road, was destroyed by fire early Wednesday morning.

In a release, Lewis said the Fire this morning at Zoo Road that burnt the building that housed The Carib Rugby Clubhouse is a painful loss and destruction of sport and rugby history that will not be replaced.

"Carib is one of the country's oldest rugby clubs and for that matter sport clubs. Trophies, medals, tokens and photographs etc that were symbols of long and hard-fought history and traditions are lost. It's a sad day for the rugby fraternity," he said.

Lewis said fierce, physical and uncompromising rivalry and battles that took place on the field of play ended once the referee's whistle blew. The Carib Clubhouse, he said, was an oasis of camaraderie and shared passion for rugby.

"As someone who competed against Caribs representing Falcons, GF rugby club and Harvard Club on the field I along with teammates would have shared many a friendly conversation off the field at the Caribs clubhouse. It's a loss not only to Caribs but the rugby fraternity. It's a piece of our history that has been stolen," he said.
