Rugby World Cup And Societe Generale Extend Worldwide Partnership

World Rugby has announced that Société Générale has renewed its long-standing and hugely-successful worldwide partnership of Rugby World Cup™ for the 2019 event in Japan.

The announcement, on the eve of the Rugby World Cup 2019 pool draw in Kyoto, confirms the French private bank giant with more than 32 million clients worldwide, as joining a stellar and growing family of commercial partners for rugby's premier event.

Société Générale is a major supporter of rugby worldwide from grassroots to the elite game and will also partner with the 2017 World Rugby Awards in Monaco on 26 November.

World Rugby Chairman Bill Beaumont said: "We are delighted to be extending our long-standing worldwide partnership with Société Générale. A brand leader, Société Générale shares values of integrity, solidarity, respect, discipline and passion with rugby, which have been evident during an association with the sport that stretches back more than 30 years."

Société Générale first partnered with Rugby World Cup in 1999 and has become one of the most recognisable brands in rugby and a major supporter at international, union and domestic level as rugby continues to enjoy record participation, fan-base and commercial growth.

Société Générale Chief Executive Frédéric Oudéa praised the partnership: "This partnership reinforces a long-standing commitment to rugby and demonstrates the group's forward-looking ambition to be a supporter of all forms of rugby, all around the world. Rugby embodies values that are rooted in Société Générale's DNA: team spirit and commitment, and seeking new challenges and enjoying working together. That's why rugby continues to inspire us."

Rugby World Cup 2015 was the most commercially-successful rugby event of all time, with partners playing a full and active role in generating unforgettable moments for fans around the world.

Nielsen research has shown that the event has grown the global rugby fan-base by more than 50 million to a total of 300 million worldwide, while the 2015 edition set new attendance, audience and competitiveness records with Japan 2019 set to raise the bar.

Société Générale joins Emirates, Heineken, Land Rover and MasterCard as a Rugby World Cup 2019 Worldwide Partner and Canon as an Official Sponsor. The full Worldwide Partner inventory is on track to be completed before the event marks two years to go.

World Rugby Chief Executive Brett Gosper said: "The announcement also reflects a Rugby World Cup 2019 commercial programme that is on track to be finalised in record time and with record value, underscoring the continued and ever-increasing appeal of the event and the sport in the global marketplace, including in Asia."

The Rugby World Cup draw will be broadcast live via World Rugby's suite of digital and social media platforms (www.rugbyworldcup.com and @rugbyworldcup Twitter and Facebook), starting at 17:00 (Japan time, 09:00 BST). The draw will also be shown live by a number of leading broadcasters around the world with information available via the website.
