Fiji On Verge Of RWC 2019 Qualification

Fiji On Verge Of RWC 2019 Qualification

Fiji could qualify for Rugby World Cup 2019 this weekend if they win their World Rugby Pacific Nations Cup match against Tonga in Nuku'alofa on Saturday.

With results across the 2016 and 2017 editions of the Pacific Nations Cup to determine the 2019 qualifiers, Fiji require just two points from their two remaining matches to book a place in Pool D as Oceania 1, alongside Australia, Wales, Georgia and Americas 2 (Canada or Uruguay).

World Rugby will show highlights of the encounter on just 24 hours after the final whistle.

While Oceania 1 could be determined this weekend, the race for second place and qualification as Oceania 2 is wide open with Samoa and Tonga equal on 5 competition points, meaning the place is likely to be decided on Saturday, 15 July when Samoa host Fiji in Apia.
Once decided, Oceania 2 will join England, France, Argentina and USA to complete Pool C.

The third-place team will face a cross-continental play-off with a European team and, potentially also the Repechage tournament, if they are to qualify. Click here for more information on RWC 2019 qualification.
