Americas Rugby Championship 2018 Round Two Preview

Americas Rugby Championship 2018 Round Two Preview

Round two of the Americas Rugby Championship 2018 kicks off on Friday with Uruguay looking to make it 13 test wins in a row when they face Brazil in Sao Paulo (20:10 local, 22:10 GMT).

On a high from Rugby World Cup 2019 qualification last weekend, Los Teros currently top the Americas Rugby Championship standings and are unbeaten in test matches since February 2017, culminating with the historic win over Canada.

However, on Friday they face another side riding high at the moment in Brazil, who secured a first-ever win in Chile the same day as Uruguay booked their ticket to Japan 2019, one that helped them climb to their highest ever position of 25th in the World Rugby Rankings.

Meanwhile, on Saturday, Argentina XV face Chile at the Estadio Agustín Pichot in Ushuaia (17:40 local time, 20:40 GMT) and USA host Canada in Sacramento (15:10 local time, 23:10 GMT).

Defending champions USA are second in the table having won their opening match against Argentina XV, but in a tight game, failed to secure a bonus point to match Uruguay. They will meet a Canada team determined to bounce back after consecutive losses to Uruguay and a big 52-16 defeat against USA the last time the two teams met in the Rugby World Cup 2019 qualifiers last year.

Chile sit fourth in the standings, but face tough opposition away to a young and talented Argentina XV. Chile finished bottom in both 2016 and 2017, but have already shown that they have improved with exposure to regular, high-intensity international rugby.

World Rugby is live streaming all of the matches via and the @Worldrugby facebook and You Tube social channels (geo-blocked in the Americas).
