USA remain in pole position to retain the Americas Rugby Championship title going into the final round of the 2018 edition, although Argentina XV and Uruguay can still deny them.
The Eagles remain three points clear of 2016 champions Argentina XV in the standings after enjoying a 45-16 victory over Brazil in São Jose dos Campos.
In the other fourth round matches Argentina XV saw off Canada 40-15 in Jujuy, while Uruguay’s record 67-15 win over Chile means Los Teros remain five points behind USA with a round to go.
The Americas Rugby Championship 2018 concludes next Saturday with a triple bill, beginning with Chile against Canada before the USA take on Uruguay in Montevideo knowing that their destiny is in their own hands. A win for the Eagles would confirm them as champions, while a defeat would open the door for Argentina XV, who travel to São Jose dos Campos to play Brazil in the final match of the tournament.
Uruguay need to beat the Eagles with a bonus-point – and deny the defending champions anything from the game while also hoping that Brazil do them a favour – to be crowned champions.
