R Defending champions USA go into their final Americas Rugby Championship 2018 match with Uruguay on Saturday knowing they will retain their title with a win or draw in Montevideo.
The Eagles are bidding to become the first team to go through a single campaign with five victories, but to do so they must end Uruguay’s 14-test winning run which stretches back more than a year.
If USA slip up in Montevideo (15:40 local time, 18:40 GMT) then the door opens for Uruguay and 2016 champions Argentina XV, who sit five and three points behind the Eagles in the standings.
Of the two, Uruguay have the slimmest hopes of a first title as they must win with a bonus point, deny USA anything from the match and then hope Brazil can do them a favour in the final match (18:10 local tim
e, 21:10 GMT).
The task for the Felipe Contepomi-coached Argentina XV is much simpler, if the Eagles lose with no bonus point they must simply win in Brazil or win with a bonus point if the defending champions get one in defeat to Uruguay.
The final round of the 2018 edition kicks off in Santiago where Chile take on Canada (13:10 local time, 16:10 GMT) with the hosts looking to win their first Americas Rugby Championship match since the inaugural competition in 2016.
The Americas Rugby Championship 2018 is proving a hit with rugby fans around the world, and with World Rugby delivering live streaming via www.worldrugby.org and World Rugby Facebook and YouTube (geo-blocked in the Americas), live and highlights video has been viewed more than 6.5 million times.
Once again, every pass, kick and try will be streamed live via World Rugby this weekend (outside of the Americas), while ESPN will be broadcasting all the action across the continent.
