There was a great turn out at the DHL Beach Rugby Tournament hosted by the Trinidad & Tobago Rugby Football Union (TTRFU) and Mayaro Rugby Football Club on Sunday, June 17, 2018 at Mayaro Beach.
Nine (9) male and three (3) female teams made the trek to Church Street, Mayaro to participate in the Beach Rugby event on Sunday, two (2) of which had never played rugby in any format before, a team from Mafeking and the other from Mayaro.
This was the second Beach Rugby Tournament held in Trinidad & Tobago, the first was hosted by Royalians Rugby Football Club in 2015.
Exiles Rugby Youth Club won the Men’s Division with Rainbow Sports & Cultural Club taking second place. The Women’s Division saw the Defence Force new female outfit becoming champions with runners-up position going to The Harvard Club ladies.
The TTRFU would like to thank DHL, Rugby Americas North (RAN), BPTT and the Mayaro Rugby Football Club for their partnership and support in the successful hosting of this tournament.
Discussions are already on the way between the TTRFU, Mayaro Rugby Football Club and other stakeholders to make this tournament an annual event.
