The Trinidad & Tobago Rugby Football Union (TTRFU) hosted its Youth Development Symposium on Saturday, February 9, 2019, at the Youth Training Centre (YTC), Golden Grove Road, Arouca.
This event was organised by the TTRFU’s Youth Development Coordinator & Assistant Secretary/Treasurer, Mr. Karl Muckette, and consisted of presentations and practical sessions on the following matters:
- Risky Behaviours & Sexually Transmitted Illness – Dr. Isaac & the Red Cross
- Delinquency Desistance & Violence Prevention – YTC Mentoring Team
- The Basics of Financial Literacy – Mr. Karume Rauseo
- Considerations in Starting Your Own Business – Mr. Emile Jobity, Entrepreneur
- Small-Sided Games – TTRFU’s YDOs
- Trial Rugby Games – Trinidad & Tobago Men’s Under 19 National Team
The TTRFU’s nine (9) Youth Development Officers (YDOs) were required to assemble 10 or more youths under their charge to attend the symposium. It is to be said that the YDOs fulfilled their mandate, which resulted in approximately 150 youths taking part in the event.
There was also an element of character building in the programme where the youths toured the facility and interacted with particular inmates, who shared their experiences prior to and during their incarceration.
The symposium started at 9:00 a.m. and culminated at 5:00 p.m. after a trial match between the Men’s Under 19 National Athletes.
President, Mr. Colin Peters, said the symposium was a major success and paid tribute to Mr. Muckette for his hard work and determination and thanked the Superintendent of YTC, Mr. Scanterbury, for facilitating the event.
He added that the TTRFU was not only about creating great rugby players but good citizens and helping develop the young people of Trinidad & Tobago.
Special thanks to the guest speakers, members of the Youth Training Centre’s Mentoring Team, University of Trinidad & Tobago’s Foundations & Prior Learning Departments, the Men’s U19 National Technical Team and the Youth Development Officers for making this such a successful event.
